Noomi Rapace Trading 'Dragon Tattoo' For 'Alien' Prequel?

Noomi Rapace, a.k.a. the original Swedish "Girl With the Dragon Tattoo," may not have landed the Lisbeth Salander role in the planned U.S. adaptation of the Millennium Trilogy... but she isn't having trouble nabbing meaty roles in other big-budget tentpoles. She's already been cast as the female lead opposite Robert Downey Jr. in "Sherlock Holmes [...]

"Jackass 3D" won't be pooping and vomiting its way into theaters until October 15, but Johnny Knoxville already knows that the home video version, slated for release in December, is going to be awesome.

"Man, we filmed so much stuff. So much great stuff got left out of the film because we just overshot," Knoxville explained to MTV News. "That'll be in '[Jackass] 3.5,' coming out at Christmas," he said at the 2010 VMAs.

One can't help but wonder what 3-D stunts were too hot (or wet... or messy...) for the theatrical release, and we're sure whatever the gang cooked up will be completely family-appropriate for holiday DVD viewing. Or not.

Another thing "Jackass" fans will be experiencing for the first time is a clean and sober Steve-O, who seems plenty pumped for his post-rehab debut. "I can't wait. It's going to be awesome," Steve-O told MTV at the VMAs. "We made a great movie. Everybody's gonna love it. People are gonna be waiting to see how being sober and filming 'Jackass' is different [for me]," he added. "Being clearheaded and sober makes it more painful, more scary and the first thing I say is, 'I'm Steve-O, why do I have to be Steve-O?'"

Are you excited to see "Jackass 3" next week and to take in the crazier, poopier "Jackass 3.5" this holiday season? Tell us in the comments!

New 'Harry Potter' Character Posters: Up-Close And (Scary) Personal

With the November 19 release of "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows - Part 1" very quickly approaching, we Potterheads are torn between uncontrollable excitement and trepidation-bordering-on-sadness, due to the fact that this film brings us a little bit closer to the End. Of. It. All. However, conflicting emotions aside, we are happy to report [...]

Noomi RapaceNoomi Rapace, a.k.a. the original Swedish "Girl With the Dragon Tattoo," may not have landed the Lisbeth Salander role in the planned U.S. adaptation of the Millennium Trilogy... but she isn't having trouble nabbing meaty roles in other big-budget tentpoles. She's already been cast as the female lead opposite Robert Downey Jr. in "Sherlock Holmes 2," and now comes news that she's a strong candidate to play the E.T.-butt-kicking lead in Ridley Scott's 3-D "Alien" prequel.

According to Deadline, studio 20th Century Fox has also met with actresses Abbie Cornish and Carey Mulligan about the part, but Rapace reportedly left a "strong impression."

We wish we could say that Rapace -- or whoever ultimately lands the role -- will be playing a younger version of Sigourney Weaver's iconic Lt. Ellen Ripley, but, alas, that seems unlikely. Scott told Empire last year that the movie will be set roughly 30 years before the original "Alien," which would make the year 2085 and would make Ellen Ripley a zygote.

The prequel will reportedly delve into the origins of that mummified alien Ripley and co. discover in the first "Alien," and could conceivably spawn a second prequel movie (a prequel sequel).

We'd be stoked to see Rapace kick some "Alien" ass -- would you? Let us know in the comments!

'Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides,' Paul Walker And Facebook In Today's Twitter-Wood

Disproportionately large numbers of picture tweets continued to be a Friday trend today, with another on-set shot of "Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides" showing up from Jerry Bruckheimer, Ludacris hanging out with Paul Walker, and Rose McGowan showing up to a USO event with an actor you may recognize from "Sons of Anarchy."
Jon [...]

Harry Potter and the Deathly HallowsHarry, Ron and Hermione may find some of those elusive Horcruxes in "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1," but there is one thing they won't find, no matter how hard they look: a third dimension. And neither will the audience.

Warner Bros. announced today that "Deathly Hallows: Part 1" will not -- repeat, will NOT -- be released in 3-D as originally planned because the conversion to the format would not be completed by the film's November 19 release date.

"Despite everyone's best efforts, we were unable to convert the film in its entirety and meet the highest standards of quality," the studio said in a statement. "We do not want to disappoint fans who have long-anticipated the conclusion of this extraordinary journey, and to that end, we are releasing our film day-and-date on November 19, 2010 as planned. We, in alignment with our filmmakers, believe this is the best course to take in order to ensure that our audiences enjoy the consummate 'Harry Potter' experience."

Producer David Heyman and director David Yates backed the studio's decision. "For 10 years, we have worked alongside Alan Horn and the studio, whose priority has always been to preserve the integrity of Jo Rowling's books as we have adapted them to the screen," Heyman said in a statement. "This decision reflects that commitment."

Added Yates: "This decision, which we completely support, underscores the fact that Warner Bros. has always put quality first." Gotta love the show of unity, but that's to be expected from the people making the movie. The big question is: How will fans react?

We've never been huge supporters of converting movies to 3-D after the fact -- at best it can be unnecessary; at worst it can be "Clash of the Titans" -- but if it had been done properly, we wouldn't have minded some 3-D wizardry for "Deathly Hallows: Part 1." Still, it doesn't affect our enthusiasm for the film at all. We're just as pumped now as we were when we woke up this morning.

Of course, we will be treated to some three-dimensional "Potter" fun beginning July 15, 2011: "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2" is still on tap for both 2-D and 3-D versions.

Are you bummed... or glad that "Deathly Hallows: Part 1" won't be in 3-D?

It's interesting to observe young children as they sit in front of the television watching a favorite movie. The characters or the story can be seen to have their total attention as they recite the script word for word. The same can be observed when they're sitting in the classroom, absorbing every detail of an interesting story being read them.

How To Keep Your Singing Voice Healthy

Under normal circumstances, we breathe without any help. Inhale, pause, exhale - so the rhythm continues and keeps us alive. We do this day in, day out, usually with very little effort. Our breathing is normally quite shallow, until we do something energetic which increases our body's needs for oxygen - this then increases the depth and rate at which we breathe.

Review of Saturday Morning Cartoons' Greatest Hits

I've always been into metal, it's one of the first genres I started listening to when I was younger and I still listen to it religiously. I started with bands like Hammerfall and Sonata Arctica and Iron Maiden and gradually moved onto heavier and heavier stuff. My progression in a nutshell would have been Hammerfall -> Black Sabbath -> Metallica -> Megadeth -> Trivium -> Children of Bodom -> Dethklok -> August Burns Red -> Whitechapel.

Making Money, Making Music

As rock acts go, there are not many who have been, or are as big and notorious as Van Halen, their reputation as the biggest party band of their era is now well defined and accepted. The new rock kings were no band of drunken slouches though, in Eddie Van Halen they have the most groundbreaking and electrifying guitar player since Jimi Hendrix.

Built in Lesson Pianos - What's Vital To Know Before Buying!

When I was growing up I had to take piano lessons from this really mean old lady who played the organ at our church on Sundays. I really didn't enjoy being around her at all for numerous reasons. One, I was ten when I first started lessons and what ten year old boy do you know that likes to hang around old people?

The Effect of Lloyd Banks Mixtapes on His Solo Career

Since the birth of hip hop, mixtapes have been around to help artists get their work quickly and effectively onto the streets and into the music scene. DJs and rappers, like Sheek Louch, are now releasing them quickly, causing the market to be extremely expansive-- one could even find Lil' Wayne or Sheek Louch mixtapes in their entirety right on the internet. The meaning of the word 'mixtape' was much different in the '70's when it first came about.

Barber's Adagio for Strings and Its Link With Trance Music

The oboe has been around as a significant solo instrument since the Renaissance and so it is not surprising that there is a very substantial repertoire of oboe pieces available. There is a massive repertoire of Baroque solos for the instrument and there has been another burst of activity in the last century or so. In between, during the Classical and early Romantic periods, there were far fewer solo pieces written.

FROM SPLASH PAGE: The road toward a brand new "Superman" movie is a long one, but it's gotten shorter thanks to the involvement of director Zack Snyder. The filmmaker, already known amongst comic book fans for his work on "300" and "Watchmen," is set to put his stamp on the Man of Steel for the character's 2012 big screen revamp — but that doesn't mean he was always considered the front runner to direct the Christopher Nolan-produced film.

Indeed, several directors were considered for the "Superman" reboot, with "Back to the Future" helmer Robert Zemeckis listed as one of them. But in a recent interview with MTV News, Zemeckis thoroughly downplayed his rumored involvement with the iconic DC Entertainment property.

"I passed on that faster than a speeding bullet," he told MTV News about his brief connection to "Superman." See what else Zemeckis had to say about the "Superman" reboot on Splash Page.

Would Zemeckis have been a good choice to direct "Superman"? Tell us in the comments!
